Understanding existing systems to build better solutions

SDL Tech analyses, documents and reconstructs the operating principles of systems already in service, so they can be maintained, improved or replaced with confidence.

Engineering services

Work that starts with what is already installed

Equipment outlives its documentation. Suppliers change, source files go missing, and the people who built a system move on. Our engineering work rebuilds that understanding from the system itself and puts it back into a form the client's own team can use.

Reverse engineering

A legitimate engineering discipline, applied properly

Reverse engineering is the established technical process of examining a system in order to understand, document, maintain, improve or recreate a compatible solution for it. It is how operators keep ageing equipment serviceable when original documentation no longer exists.

How we scope it

  • We work only on systems the client owns or is authorized to have analysed
  • We do not circumvent security or access-control mechanisms
  • We do not replicate protected products without permission
  • We do not use confidential third-party information
  • Scope and permissions are agreed in writing before analysis begins

Deliverables

What you receive at the end

01

Functional description

How the system behaves in operation, stated in terms a maintenance team can act on.

02

Structural and data-flow analysis

How the parts relate, where data moves, and which routines govern which behaviour.

03

Technical documentation

A written record your own engineers can maintain, hand over and build on.
